How to Play Chess: Basics Rules

Playing chess is fun

Step 1. How to Setup the Chessboard

All the pawns are in the second line in front of the King, Queen, Bishops, Knights and the Towers. See pictures below

Step 2. How Each Chess Pieces Move

There 6 different kinds of pieces and they all move in different way.  Pieces cannot move through other pieces, except the knight that can jump over other pieces

- The first move of Pawn can make one or two steps forward, after that the Pawn can only move 1 step forward. They move forward, but capture diagonally.

- The Knight is only pieces that can jump in a L form over others. Knights moves by going two squares in one direction, and then one more move at a 90 degree angle, just like the shape of an “L”.

- The Bishop moves in diagonal line as far as it wants. Each bishop starts on one color (light or dark) and must always stay on that color.

- The Rook moves in the straight lines as far as it wants. Rook can go backward, forward, left or right in straight line. The rooks are very powerful pieces, especially to check mate the King!

How to Move the King in Chess
The key of the game to check mate your opponent king. it is the most important piece, but also one of the weakest. The king can only move one square in any direction - up, down, to the sides, and diagonally. The king may never move himself into check (where he could be captured). When the king is attacked by another piece this is called "check".
